2022 Kia EV6

The 2022 Kia EV6 is the automaker's initial move toward shifting from regular ICE vehicles to battery-electric vehicles (BEVs). With its unusual blend of hatchback and crossover utility characteristics, the EV6 is meant to appeal to both first-time EV purchasers and regular vehicle consumers. The EV6 offers impressive interior space and a flat floor, thanks to its battery-electric architecture. It is built on Hyundai's new Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) which also supports future Kia EV models like the EV9 crossover utility. The EV6 comes in three trim levels, Light, Wind, and GT-Line, and has a range of powertrain options, allowing buyers to get the performance they desire at a reasonable price. With 800-volt multi-charging, the EV6 can go from 10% to 80% charge in less than 18 minutes using a DC fast charger. Kia plans to market 11 EV models globally by 2026, making the EV6 a key player in the company's electric lineup.

In terms of price and release date, the 2022 Kia EV6 is available now at many Kia dealers across the United States. The base Light trim is rear-wheel-drive (RWD) powered by a single electric motor, with a base price of $40,900. The Wind and top-level GT-Line trims are available in RWD and dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) form, with prices starting at $47,000 and $51,200 respectively. The subject of this review is a 2022 Kia EV6 GT-Line with dual-motor AWD, which offers a combined 320 horsepower and an estimated range of 274 miles on a single charge. Kia estimates this version of the EV6 will accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds. The GT-Line AWD model comes with a variety of features such as 20-inch black-finish alloy wheels, heat pump, heated steering wheel, and heated outboard rear seats. The test vehicle also had matte gray paint and a GT-Line suede seat package, with a suggested retail price of $58,105.

In terms of design, the Kia EV6 is a "category buster" because to its unusual blend of car-like and crossover SUV elements. The federal government defines the EV6 as a "light truck," which has usually been used for SUVs and pickup trucks. Because of this designation, the EV6 has a higher ride height and a more upright sitting position than a standard hatchback, making it more adaptable and practical for purchasers. Overall, the 2022 Kia EV6 is a strong contender in the electric vehicle market, with a variety of engine options, a long range, and a distinctive appearance that appeals to both regular car consumers and EV aficionados.
