The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is a well-known off-road vehicle that can travel anywhere. However, with the emergence of electric cars, the G-future Wagen's seemed dubious. Mercedes-response Benz's is the EQG, an all-electric G-Class that will be available in 2024. Can it live up to the fame of its predecessors? To discover out, we drove a prototype.
The
EQG prototype we tested will cost in the millions, but by the time it reaches
showrooms in 2024, the price is expected to be slightly above that of the
current top-of-the-line Mercedes-AMG G 63, around $370,000 before additional
costs. This puts it at a premium price point, but with strong demand for the
G-Class, the EQG is likely to attract buyers. Mercedes-Benz Australia has not
yet confirmed when the EQG will be available locally.
The EQG will have a variety of equipment as standard, such as electric-adjustable seats, a digital instrument panel, and the MBUX management system. With a ladder-frame chassis and a battery positioned between the rails that drives four separate electric motors, one for each wheel, the EQG maintains the off-road capabilities of the G-Class as well.
Safety
is a top priority for the EQG, with a range of active assist and driver aid
systems, as well as multiple airbags throughout the interior. The battery is
also protected from damage from off-road obstacles.
Overall,
the Mercedes-Benz EQG is a fitting successor to the G-Class, offering the same
off-road capabilities and luxurious amenities while also incorporating the
latest in electric technology. It may come with a premium price tag, but it is
sure to appeal to fans of the G-Class and those looking for a high-performing
electric vehicle.
How
does the Mercedes-Benz EQG drive? The Mercedes-Benz EQG is not just a regular
G-Class with an electric motor. The team behind it has worked hard to ensure
that the driving dynamics of the EQG are just as impressive as the regular
G-Class.
One
of the key benefits of the electric powertrain is instant torque, which means
the EQG has plenty of power right from the get-go. The four electric motors
work together to deliver impressive acceleration, and the EQG can reach 0-60
mph in just 5.5 seconds. The top speed is limited to around 130 mph.
The
EQG also benefits from a low center of gravity, thanks to the placement of the
battery pack between the chassis rails, which helps to improve handling and
stability. The steering is precise, and the suspension is well-tuned to provide
a comfortable ride.
The
EQG also has a number of drive modes, including Sport and Eco, which allow the
driver to adjust the powertrain and suspension settings to suit their driving
style.
The
prototype we drove was fitted with a set of large off-road tires, which helped
it to tackle some challenging terrain. The EQG has a ground clearance of around
8 inches, and it can ford through water up to a depth of around 20 inches. The
team behind the EQG has also developed a new off-road system that helps the
driver to navigate difficult terrain by adjusting the power distribution to the
wheels and providing information on the best line to take.
The
EQG also benefits from the latest generation of Mercedes-Benz's 4MATIC
all-wheel-drive system, which can distribute power between the front and rear
axles as needed.
The Mercedes-Benz EQG is an off-road vehicle that can travel everywhere the standard G-Class can. The EQG has a more exciting driving experience thanks to its electric drivetrain, which enhances it both on and off the road.
The
driving range of the EQG is still to be confirmed, but Mercedes-Benz estimates
that it will be around 300 miles on a single charge. The EQG can be charged
using a standard household outlet, but it can also be charged at a
fast-charging station in around 20 minutes.
The G-suitable Class's replacement is the Mercedes-Benz EQG. It maintains the all-terrain versatility of the standard G-Class while enhancing the driving experience with an all-electric drivetrain. The EQG is an excellent option for purchasers who want a luxurious off-roader but don't want to sacrifice on sustainability because it is more efficient and environmentally friendly than the standard G-Class.
The Mercedes-Benz EQG is set to go on sale in 2024, and it will be interesting to see how the market responds to this new electric G-Class. We expect the EQG to be a hit with buyers who want a luxury off-roader that can go anywhere and do anything, and we can't wait to see it in action on the road.
