Two EV crossovers are being developed by Renault's Alpine brand for the American market.



Alpine, Founded in 1955 and controlled by Groupe Renault, the French automobile brand achieved recognition in the 1970s. With the A110 sports automobile, the brand excelled in rally contests and triumphed at Le Mans in 1978. In 2017, Renault resurrected the brand with an updated A110. The sports car hasn't been made available in the US, though. A new research claims that Alpine may be entering the US market within the next decade with two new models specifically designed for the American market: a mid-size electric crossover and a larger electric SUV, targeted for release in 2027 or 2028. CEO Laurent Rossi stated that the US market is crucial for increasing Alpine's sales and that entering the US market "will create the bulk of the extra volume."

Alpine's current sales are relatively low, with only 3,546 total sales in 2022. However, the brand has ambitious plans for growth and aims to reach 150,000 annual sales by 2030. According to CEO Laurent Rossi, the US market will be crucial for achieving this goal. The two new models being developed for the US market, a mid-size electric crossover and a larger electric SUV, are intended to appeal to American consumers and compete with similar models from other luxury car brands. Rossi compared the crossovers to the Porsche Macan and Cayenne coupe in terms of how they are positioned in the market.

These electric crossovers' platforms are still up for discussion. In partnership with partner Nissan, Renault is thinking of utilizing platforms from Geely's premium brands, which include Volvo, Polestar, and Zeekr. Alpine will introduce three intriguing electric vehicles for the European market before the US launch. A performance-tuned Renault 5 electric hatchback will be the first, followed by a fast small crossover., referred to as the GT, which will feature torque vectoring, more powerful motors, and unique battery chemistry. Finally, an electric successor to the A110 is planned for 2027, developed in collaboration with Lotus.

It will be a few years before Alpine's American expansion begins, but if the brand meets its 2027 timeline, it will mark the first time since the early 1990s that Renault will have a presence in the United States. Even if the dynamic A110 sports car never reaches US shores, there is much anticipation for what Alpine can deliver in the latter half of the 2020s.

The move to enter the US market is an important step for Alpine as it aims to increase its global presence and reach new customers. The US market is known to be highly competitive, with a wide range of luxury car brands vying for market share. However, Alpine hopes to differentiate itself with its unique blend of performance and efficiency, as well as its focus on electric vehicle technology.

The electric crossovers and SUVs being developed for the US market are expected to feature advanced technology, including advanced powertrains and cutting-edge infotainment systems. They will also likely be designed to meet or exceed US safety standards and emissions regulations.

In order to give clients the greatest experience possible, Alpine is also likely to concentrate on building a robust dealership network and after-sales service in the US. This will entail making it simple to obtain parts, services, and repairs, as well as providing choices for financing and leasing.

Overall, the entry of Alpine in the US market is an exciting development for car enthusiasts and EV enthusiasts alike, as it will bring a new player to the market with a unique set of offerings and a distinct brand identity.
